McFARLAND, Janette C., age 60, of Centerville, OH, formerly of Kirkwood, MO, passed away Thursday, November 7, 2003 surrounded by her family. She was born in Pittsburgh, PA on August 13, 1943. After growing up in the western Pennsylvania area with mother Melba and stepfather, George Foster, Janette settled in Pittsburgh where she would begin a 30-plus year career with Trans World Airlines, and later, TWA spinoff Worldspan. She moved with her young family to Englewood, OH in 1981. While living in the Dayton area, she graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from the MacGregor School at Antioch University, a hard-won accomplishment she was very proud of. In 1990, Janette transferred to St. Louis, MO and settled in the lovely town of Kirkwood, where she became an active member of the Kirkwood United Methodist Church. It is in Kirkwood where she began to focus on the poetry and creative writing she had loved all her life, by joining a writing group at the local Barnes & Noble bookstore and through writing classes at the local college. In October 2002, Janette and her mother Melba moved back to the Dayton, OH area, to be closer to family, especially her first grandchild, Trey, who was the light of her life. She was an intelligent, thoughtful and caring woman with a crackling wit, whose Methodist faith was very important to her and who loved a lively debate about whatever she read that day in the USA Today. Janette was preceded in death by her father, Ken Hershberger, and her stepfather, George S. Foster, Jr. To cherish her memory, she leaves her mother, Melba Foster of Centerville, OH, son, Kenneth McFarland IV and his friend, Monica Brooks of Jacksonville, FL, daughter and son-in-law, Robert and Eleanor Anderson, and beloved grandson, Robert 'Trey' Anderson III, all of Centerville, OH; four brothers, George (Pauline) Foster of Dayton, OH, James (Betty) Foster of St. Louis, MO, William Foster of Tampa, FL; and Harold 'Butch' Foster of Tampa, FL; one sister, Melba Dumay Skinner of Tampa, FL; great-uncle and aunt, Don & Jerry Walls of Indianapolis, IN; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and their families, as well as lots of friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, November 10, 2003 at the Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering with Rev. Raymond Merz officiating. Burial in David’s Cemetery. Family will greet friends Sunday afternoon from 2-4:00 PM at the funeral home.
