Janice (Nee Mason) Battes

BATTES, Janice (nee Mason), 79, of Washington Township, passed away at Kettering Medical Center on Friday, November 28, 2008. Janice graduated from Routt High School in Jacksonville, IL, then earned her B.A. from the College of St. Francis in Joliet, NY. She continued with her education and pursued her M.S. from Columbia University in New York City and completed additional graduate work at the Universities of Michigan, Milwaukee, Cincinnati and Utah State, Provo, UT. Janice retired from the Dayton Board of Education after 25 years of service teaching hearing impaired students. She is survived by her husband, Harold "Harry" Battes; four children, Anne P. Battes; Hal J. (Kim) Battes; Mary Ellen (Chris) Hickey; Jane Battes; grandchildren, Tara Humphrey, P.J. Kirby, Jessica and Martin Battes, Meredith and Mason Hickey; great-granddaughter, Alana; niece, Marcia (Mark) Gillespie and nephew, Mark (Cheryl) Mason. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00PM on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at the Incarnation Church, 7415 Far Hills Ave., Centerville, OH 45459. Janice's family will greet friends from 5-7:00 PM on Monday evening at Routsong Funeral Home, 81 N. Main St., Centerville. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery immediately following the Mass.
