Jean Katherine Whalen

WHALEN, Jean Katherine, age 91, of Oakwood, OH, passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2018. Jean was born to the late George H. and Viola M. (Nee Martin) LeBoeuf on October 13, 1926 in Jacksonville, FL. She graduated from University of Dayton and taught Early Childhood Education in the Dayton Public Schools for 30 years. Jean was an avid gardener, great bridge player, wonderful cook, and an active member of Holy Angels Church. Most of all, Jean enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, James D. Whalen, Sr. and son, Thomas C. Whalen. Jean is survived by sons, Robert (Janine) Whalen of Oakwood, OH; James (Tami) Whalen of Oakwood, OH and daughter, Mary Kay (Edward) Buffington of Oakwood, OH; 9 grandchildren, Lesley, Christy, Michael, Thomas, Elizabeth, John, Anne, Ted, and Jack; brothers, Dr. Martin (Martha) LeBoeuf of Oakwood, OH and Charles (Sue) LeBoeuf of Centerville, OH; sisters-in-law, Barbara Whalen of Bethesda, MD and Carol LeBoeuf of MI; 3 great-grandsons and 7 great-granddaughters. Family will greet friends from 4:00pm-7:00pm on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering, OH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 1322 Brown St., Dayton, OH. Burial at Calvary Cemetery.
