age 89, of Dayton, died Monday, June 11, 2001. He was a 1930 graduate of Steele High School. Brooks spent his entire business career in the wholesale paper and printing trade in Dayton, retiring in 1977 after 42 years. He was a member of Downtown Dayton Optimist Club, life member of Christ Episcopal Church, a Junior Achievement Advisor and an avid golfer. Preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Mehlberth Adkins. Survived by his wife, Mary Esther (nee Ritchey); son, J. Brooks Adkins, Jr., and his wife, Rosemarie, of Kettering; and two grandsons, Jason and Brian Adkins. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, June 16 in Christ Episcopal Church, 20 W. First St., Dayton, with The Rev. John Paddock officiating. The family will receive friends in the Parish Hall following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis Center, 1646 N. Ninth St., Salina KS 67401.
