Jesse Franklin (Dennis) Baines

BAINES, Jesse Franklin (Dennis), 86, died Monday, November 22, 2004. He was born in West Blocton, AL and died at Bethany Lutheran Village in Centerville, OH. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Florence Marie Baines, and his sister, Lula Murphy Rogers. Jesse retired from the U.S. Army in 1961 after 20 years’ service. He was drafted before Pearl Harbor and advanced to the rank of chief warrant officer; he was awarded a bronze star in Korea. He was a printer in the Army and also worked for several local printing companies after his retirement, as well as teaching printing for 10 years at Greene County Vocational School. He was a member of ‘Garrison’s Gorillas’ teachers group. Jesse was a 32nd degree Mason, member of Alt Heidelberg Lodge and Antioch Shrine. He was a musician throughout his life, playing cornet and French horn, most recently with the Shrine Brass Band and the Tipp City Community Band. He was a gifted athlete with numerous awards in golf, bowling, and tennis. He was a gentle man with a wonderful sense of humor who touched many lives with his goodness. Jesse is survived by his son, TEB (Ann) Baines; daughters, Carole Wiltsee and Linda (Wendell) Fellure; grandchildren, John Corcoran, Allison (Karim) Botros, John Baines (Erika Lunkenheimer), Maureen Corcoran; great-granddaughter, Lillian Marie Botros; cousin, Eve Sumner, and many dear friends. The family wishes to thank the wonderful Bethany staff in the Pavilion and the Woodview nursing unit for their compassionate care. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 PM, Friday, November 26, at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 East Stroop Road in Kettering. Masonic Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM by Rev. Ed Puff and A.A.S.R., Valley of Dayton. A private burial will follow the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 1900 Richmond Rd., Lexington, KY 40502.
