Jessie M. Hartman, Jr.

August 8, 1956 — March 22, 2015

HARTMAN, Jessie M., Jr., passed away on Saturday, March 21, after a brief illness. Jessie served honorably in the U.S. Army for eight years. He received his commission from the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY in 1978 as a Second Lieutenant of Infantry. When he had left service, he had achieved the rank of Captain and served as a Platoon Leader and Executive Officer in 1st Battalion, 50th Infantry Regiment at Ft. Hood, TX and twice as a Company Commander in the 3rd Armored Division at various posts throughout Germany. Born in Greenport, New York, to an Air Force family, he lived all over the country and in Japan. After serving his country, he eventually became a quality engineer for Valeo, Inc., for whom he worked for 15 years. He then held various quality positions with different companies and ultimately landed at Johnson Electric in Vandalia as regional quality director, where he has worked for the past two years. He traveled extensively for his job and never met a stranger, making life-long friends wherever he went. Jessie was an avid golfer and was in the process of teaching his wife the finer points of the gameno easy task. He always enjoyed the company of his friends and family, and nothing made him happier than to host a gathering where people came together to celebrate and have a good time. He particularly enjoyed spending time with his son Jamie and his daughter Niki and took great pride in their accomplishments. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia (Fochtman) Hartman, son Jamie Hartman, daughter Monika Hartman, former wife and mother of his children, Theresa (Stauffer) Hartman, and sisters Donna Hartman, Tammy (Hartman) Camfield, and Rose "Tinky" Hartman; and, of course, his many, many friends. The family will receive friends from 3:00-6:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 26 at the Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering, with a service to immediately follow. If desired, friends may make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society or the Wounded Warrior Project.
