MITCHELL, Jimmie G, age 87, of Centerville, born August 25, 1928, in Dayton, OH, passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at Bethany Village.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Marilyn; two children, Karen M. Colwell (Boyd) and William G. Mitchell (Sue); four grandchildren, Matthew Lipinski, Erin Mitchell, Adam Colwell (Erin) and Megan Mitchell; four great-grandchildren, Ryan Lipinski, Anna Lipinski, Mitchell Hunt and Garrett Hunt; one brother, Thomas Mitchell (Jean) of Foley, AL; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jimmie was preceded in death by his mother, Wanda M. Mitchell Coulter, and his father, Paul G. Mitchell, both of Dayton, OH.
Jim graduated from Parker Co-op High School, and shortly thereafter, he went to work for Ohio Bell Telephone Co. and after 35 years retired from a management position in the Engineering Department. He had been active for many years at Zion Lutheran Church, Ohio Bell Credit Union Board, and a 27 year volunteer at the Miami Valley Hospital with over 6500 volunteer hours. Jim was a member of Alpha Lodge #729. He joined the Scottish Rite and Antioch Shrine in 1970. He is a past president of the Greeters, Mound Shrine Club, Antioch Building Corp., and a Treasurer of ROJ for 16 years. Jim also served elected positions as Recorder and Treasurer of Antioch Shrine. He was an Associate member of the Cabiri, member of the Antioch Greeters, Order of Quetzalcoatl, Antioch Seniors, and El Ameen Nabeel. He also drove a van to transport children to the Shriner Hospitals in Cincinnati and Lexington for several years.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, September 11, 2015 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Road, Kettering. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM preceded by open visitation at 9:00 AM Saturday September 12, 2015 at Zion Lutheran Church, 5550 Munger Road, Dayton. Burial at David's Cemetery for family only.
