TAYLOR, Joan Reinicke died at Hospice of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio on Tuesday, February 26, 2008, after a short illness. She was born Joan Betty Reinicke on April 21, 1924 in Dayton, Ohio, the daughter of John and Martha Reinicke. Joan was raised in Dayton, graduated from Fairview High School and later attended Ohio University before moving to Winter Park, Florida. It was in Winter Park where she met the love of her life, Ross (Jack) A. Taylor, at the Officers Club. Jack was a Naval Officer and Pilot and the head commander of 500 men. They were married in May 16, 1945 and that year moved to Rhode Island where Jack flew surveillance over the East Coast of the United States. After the war they were excited to relocate in Dayton where they opened Taylor Hardware on Wilmington Pike. Joan's father, John, and her brother Dick owned Reinicke Hardware. To this day valued customers of Taylor Hardware enjoyed seeing and talking with Joan and Jack during their frequent outings. Joan loved getting to know people and would spend a day a week helping her beloved husband in the store. Joan was a member of Shroyer Road Baptist Church and was very active in her younger years serving on many committees and helping to decorate the Educational Wing of the church for which Jack raised money for its completion. Many of her ancestors were instrumental in the relocation of the German Fourth Street Baptist Church to the Shroyer Road location. Joan's passions were her family, cooking, golf, reading, painting, traveling and gardening. Her grandchildren called her "Meme" and so, in time, did all who were close with the families. Meme was the mother and grandmother of many and all who knew her loved her. She took great pleasure in knowing the extended families and always asked many questions about their lives. Her children and grandchildren benefited from her love, commitment and strength of character. Besides her husband, her joy came from her grandchildren whom she spent many hours playing with and enjoying and now that they are adults she still would talk weekly with them about their lives. Most recently the new love of her life was her first great granddaughter: Alexa. Joan is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 61 years, Ross (Jack) A.
