Joann Spence

SPENCE, JoAnn, 81, of Kettering, passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at Kettering Medical Center. JoAnn was able to enjoy her last Christmas with her family before becoming gravely ill late Christmas day. She was born March 25, 1929 to Joseph Roy Strubinger and Antonia Fishbacha in Danville, IL. JoAnn was a member of Central Christian Church and League of Woman Voters. An Honor Graduate of the University of Illinois with graduate work at U.D., JoAnn began her teaching career for the Kettering City School system in the fall of 1965. This began her lifetime work where she touched and inspired so many of Kettering’s young students of today. Never a moment went by that JoAnn was not striving to help a child succeed. JoAnn retired from teaching in June of 1992 having given 27 years of distinguished service to the school system. She then enjoyed 18 golden years in blissful retirement with family, friends, traveling and always giving of herself to others in times of need. Along with her parents, JoAnn is proceded in death by a husband Joe Spence; 3 grandchildren Francis, Randy and Miranda Bledsoe; and sister Jean Strubinger. She is survived by Patti (Frank R.) Bledsoe; Michael (Paula) Spence; 5 grandchildren Amanda and Chelsea Bledsoe, and Madeline and Luke Spence and David; brother Roy (Wanda) Strubinger. Visitation will be held Friday, December 31, 2010 from 10:00-11:00AM with a Memorial Service beginning at 11:00AM at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering. Rev.
