79, died February 1, 2004 while vacationing in Costa Rica with his wife, Linda. John, the first of three children, was born on January 18, 1925 to Jackson Belden and Mildred (Rothhaar) Dennison, in Oxford, Ohio. He attended McGuffey school in Oxford, graduating in 1943. John was a platoon leader in the U.S. Army in WWII and received a Purple Heart for wounds sustained in Germany in the Battle of the Bulge. He returned from Europe in 1946 and graduated from Miami University in 1949. He married Rhoda Cullen from Oxford in 1951. John obtained a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati and worked as an engineer at National Lead of Ohio and Midwestern Pool Corp. The family moved to Dayton (Oakwood) in 1961 where John lived for the rest of his life. In 1967, he founded and ran Dennison Construction Company for 30 years, specializing in swimming pools, water treatment plants and bridges. John and Rhoda Cullen Dennison were happily married until Rhoda’s death in 1981. John married Linda Keller in 1990, a long time family friend and widow of Bert Keller, and they formed another happy marriage and blended family of his 3 children and her 4 children, with 13 grandchildren. John is survived by his wife, Linda; sisters, Ellen Dennison Beck of Centerville, OH and Margaret Dennison Kenney of South Bend, IN; children, Bill Dennison of Easton, MD, Ellen Dennison Collins of East Hampton, NY and Tom Dennison of New York City; step-children, David Keller of Denver, CO, Susan Keller of San Diego, CA, Pete Keller of Palm Beach Shores, FL and Mary Turner of Asheville, NC; and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 33 W. Dixon Ave., Oakwood, OH at 10:30 AM on Saturday, Feb. 7. There will be a reception at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, you may make contributions to Habitat for Humanity, 1041 S. Patterson Blvd., Dayton, OH 45402 or to a charity of your choice.
