BLANDFORD, John (Jack) Bernard III‪ Age 71, died July 24th, 2010, at Hospice of Dayton.‪ ‪A man of many talents, Jack lived a life that was rich with accomplishments: he was a distinguished student, a successful corporate executive, a tireless entrepreneur and a gifted artist, but all paled in comparison to his greatest achievement - the loving network of family and friends that he cultivated and enjoyed his whole life. To everyone that knew Jack he was a kind man with a giving heart and a great sense of humor. To those fortunate enough to be close to him he was a loyal son, a caring brother, a terrific friend, a devoted husband, a dedicated father, and a loving grandfather. He was a mentor, a teacher and a coach to everyone he knew.‪ Jack was born June 28, 1939 to John Bernard Blandford Jr. and Winifred (Weiser) Blandford. He was class Valedictorian of Springboro High School, a graduate of the University of Cincinnati and later earned his MBA at the University of Dayton. Jack started his working life as a co-op student at Frigidaire where he met, fell in love with and married Pauline Elizabeth Thase. He went on to build a successful career at General Motors and spent the remaining years of his career there as a plant comptroller, retiring with 33 years of faithful service. ‪For his second act, Jack reinvented himself as a small businessman by building Four Star Coin Laundry, the cleanest coin-operated laundry the Miami Valley had ever seen! After years of success with the laundromat, Jack finally relented to Pauline's request that he actually retire, and he did. Jack then moved onto his third act: focusing on his passion for art. He went back to school and earned an Associate's Degree in Art from Sinclair Community College. Jack became an active member of the Miamisburg Art Guild and the Dayton Society of Painters and Sculptors and eventually became a board member and President of the Art Guild. His brilliant paintings and chalk pastel work were recognized through numerous awards and gallery showings. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, John and Winnie, his younger brother Gerald and by his wife of 41 years, Pauline Elizabeth Blandford (April 5, 2005) - Dad has been bravely living with a broken heart since we lost Mom. ‪Jack is survived by, and will be sorely missed by, his 3 sons: Scott (Martha) of Hopewell, NJ, Todd (Maureen) of Clayton, NC, Joel (Nichole) of Kettering, OH, brothers, Dan of Germantown and Ken (Maura) of Middletown, sister Cindy (Don) McCann of Mason, six grandchildren, Kate (14) and Audrey (6) of Scott and Martha, Connor (11) and Callie (9) of Todd and Maureen, Gage (10) and Taylor (5) of Joel and Nichole, sister-in-law Evelyn Thase of Philadelphia, PA, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.‪ ‪A memorial service will be held at Prince of Peace Church of the Brethren on 800 East David Road, Kettering, OH 45429 on Saturday, July 31st at 11:00 AM preceded by a viewing at 10:00 AM.‪ In addition, the Miamisburg Art Gallery at 16 N. Main St., Miamisburg, OH will feature a special showing of his art and life from September 18th through October 1st with a special tribute and opening on September 18th from 2:00-5:00 PM.‪ May God bless you Dad. You are with Mom now, together again where you belong. We love you both and miss you tremendously.‪ Condolences and/or flowers may be sent to the Routsong Funeral Home at 2100 East Stroop Rd. Dayton, OH. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Dayton where they took very good care of Dad or the Miamisburg Art Gallery which was such an important part of his life.
