John C. Smith

Smith, John C., age 71, of Kettering, OH, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2019. John was born to the late Carl and Rita (nee O’Donnell) Smith On March 9, 1948, in Lima, OH. He was part of the first graduating class of Alter High School in 1966 and went on to earn his B.S. from Xavier University. John worked at Wright-Patterson AFB as an accountant for over 30 years and then as a Bayliff for the City of Kettering. He had a life-long passion for sports, and loved all things baseball, football, and especially basketball. John was a big fan of Xavier basketball and even coached basketball for Centerville high school. He was a member of the Detroit Athletic Club. John attended church every Sunday and was a member of St. Albert the Great Catholic Church.

He will be memorialized by his daughters, Sarah (Tim) Adams and Emily (Rob) Short; grandchildren, Zachary Short, Collin Short, Autumn Adams and Aubrey Adams; sister, Julie (Don) Prijatel; nieces, Heather Prijatel, Liza Thors, Caroline Sutton; and other extended family and friends.

Family will greet friends from 10am-12pm on Monday, April 1 at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, 3033 Far Hills Ave, Dayton, OH 45429. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at noon. Burial in Miami Cemetery, Corwin, OH. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Xavier University’s general scholarship fund.
