John C. Sechrist age 60 passed away peacefully at his home, February 7th, 2018.Born in Erie, March 4th, 1957 to Kenneth R. and Catherine (White) Sechrist. He attended Cathedral Prep76, the University of Dayton earning a Degree in Business90, and then graduated from the School of Advertising Art, Dayton Ohio. Cookie as he was known at UD, worked his way through school with a skill he learned and honed behind the bar at the 3Ds, Erie Pa. This served him well on his extended road through school. He managed the Elephant Bar in Erie. He was asked by the owners to go to their restaurant in Columbus to catch a thief … and he did. Calling on that same skill set, while attending UD, John was on the boards again as a manager at Newcombs, where he made many strong friendships but his favorite job was working behind the Bar at Jays Restaurant, a staple of Dayton Fine Dining. Once he graduated from SAA he put his talent to work. He was employed as an in house graphics designer for a Dayton engineering firm before moving on to Elder-Beermans. John married and had 3 wonderful children with his former wife Jennifer. These 3 were his world. Whenever speaking with John, no matter the reason, the conversation turned to those kids. He loved them from the bottom of his heart. John was well read. He especially liked current events, although soft spoken he would light at the opportunity for a good debate especially one where he had command of the facts. He had a great love for baseball, he understood the game, and he particularly enjoyed the Cincinnati Reds and the Pirates. You could also find him watching the Steelers. Anyone, one who knew John, would always start by saying what great guy and what a gentle man he was. He was a man that never complained no matter what he was faced with. He never asked for pity and was always ready to do for you what he could. He is survived by his twin sister Joan, Grand Rapids, Michigan, his children, Will, Catherine and Quinn, Dayton, Ohio, brother David and wife Chris, Erie, Pennsylvania and nephews Patrick, Erie, Bryan and Sean of Chicago, Illinois. His parents Kenneth and Catherine, Uncle J. Charles Sechrist, Aunt Nelly and Uncle Fred Buss and Aunt Mary Leonard preceded him in death. Visitation Saturday, February 17, 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, St Peters Cathedral, 230 West 10th Street, Erie, Pennsylvania. Funeral mass directly following.
