(Lt. Col) FLOOD, John Dennis of Centerville, Ohio passed away on March 21, 2016 after a brave and valiant fight against Lewy Body dementia. He was 73 years old.
John was a graduate of Jackson High School, class of 1960, and received his BA from Kent State University in 1965, Juris Doctor from Lincoln College in 1973, and MA from Webster College in 1980. He was a Vietnam Veteran and served his country for 21 years as an officer in the United States Air Force posted in Texas, California, Colorado, Virginia and Ohio. John pursued a career in defense contracting and then at NCR in Dayton after retiring from the military in 1985.
John was a competitive marathon runner, completing 4 marathons including Pikes Peak and New York City, and an avid outdoors man, hiking the Rockies, Sierras, Smokies, Whites and Ben Nevis in Scotland. John loved learning about all things, but mostly History, be it his own family, city, country or world, and he never tired of exploring the community in which he lived.
Over the years John participated in various organizations that reflected his passions and heritage such as the Caledonian Society, the Kettering Striders and sponsor family to cadets at the United States Air Force Academy. However, of all his roles, the ones that suited him best were those of beloved grandpa, father and devoted husband. John's dedication to his family was without limits or demands and his gifts of love, support, laughter and friendship will be heartily missed.
