MEYER, JOHN JOSEPH went to be with his Lord on December 6, 2011. He was born in Toledo, OH on November 24, 1923 to Henry and Ethel Meyer. He moved to Clyde, OH at the age of two. He attended Clyde schools and the Lutheran Church. At the start of WWII, he joined the Army. As a member of the 504th AAA Gun Battalion, he served under General Douglas McArthur during the "I shall return" campaign in the Philippines. He participated in the invasions of both Leyte and Okinawa, Japan. In 1946, John returned from the war and married Phyllis Clapp. Together they spent a number of years farming and then he worked for Castalia Electric for over 25 years. John served on the Green Creek Township Board of Zoning Appeals for 20 years. John and Phyllis moved to Bethany Lutheran Village in Dayton, OH in 2003. John was a man of integrity and principle who did the right thing even when it was hard. He was a hard worker and a clever problem solver. He loved the Lord and was devoted to his family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Ethel Meyer; brothers, Martin, Samuel, David, and sister Ruth Mary. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Phyllis P Meyer, his daughters Theresa Meyer Futrell (James) of Dayton, OH, Esther Meyer Futrell (Thomas) of Trinity, NC, a son, Nathan John Meyer (Suzanne) of Kernersville, NC, and a brother, Daniel C. Meyer of Clyde, OH. He is survived by seven grandchildren Janessa Futrell of Chicago, IL, Jeremiah Futrell of Raliegh, NC, Benjamin Futrell of Charlotte, NC, Jocelyn Futrell Piper of Okinawa, Japan, Andrew Futrell of Trinity, NC, Adam and Joshua Meyer of Kernersville, NC
A funeral service with military honors will be on December 10, 2011 at 12:30 p.m. at Foos and Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue, OH 44811. Burial to follow at McPherson Cemetery. Family and Friends are invited to a dinner at Foos Funeral Home in Bellevue after the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Alpha USA go to www.alphausa.org, click on "donate" at the bottom, change the receiving department from "where needed most" to MILITARY, hit go, and in the "special instructions" box write, "Given in honor of John J.
