CARTER, John O. Sr, age 73, of Dayton, passed away on Friday, December 7, 2018. John was born to the late Burlin and Elsie (Creager) Carter on September 20, 1945, in Dayton. John attended Stivers High School and is a member of Stivers Athletic Hall of Fame. After graduating John earned a scholarship to play football at the University of Dayton. He later completed his degree in electronic engineering at Sinclair College. John retired from Delco Moraine after 43 years of service as an electrician. John was a jack of all trades and could fix just about everything; and if he couldn’t, he knew how to teach himself so he could. He was at home outdoors and loved camping, boating, fishing, and building/flying his own model airplanes and drones. Most of all, John was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, and loved getting the family together to have a good time.
John is preceded in death by his parents, and his beloved granddaughter, Ashley Carter.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Judy (nee Jones) Carter; children, John (Becky) Carter Jr., Michele (Glenn) Warnock, Karen Johnson, Christina (Jeremy) Lipker, and Jessica (Tom) Blankenship; 8 grandchildren; 3great-grandchildren; Siblings Warren (Marjorie) Carter, Nadene (Roger) Strother, and Frank (Carole) Carter; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family.
A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, December 12, from 11-1pm, at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering, 45429, with a service to follow. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave, Dayton, OH 45420, as thanks for the wonderful care that they gave John and his family.
