MECKSTROTH, John R., age 48, of Kettering, OH (formerly of Pflugerville, TX) passed away Monday, Nov. 17, 2003 after a lengthy battle with brain tumor cancer. John graduated from Fairmont East High School in 1973. He won the Deeds Scholarship from NCR that year and co-oped with NCR during college. John was a member of Tau Beta Pi, professional engineering fraternity, while studying at the University of Cincinnati from which he graduated cum laude in 1978. He was employed by IBM in Austin, TX for 23 years as a programmer, achieving several patents. John is survived by his parents, Robert and Wilma Meckstroth, his brother, David Meckstroth, his sister, Carol Meckstroth of Las Vegas, NV, his former wife, Cheryl Atchison and his son, Nicholas Meckstroth of Taylor, TX. John was a member of the choirs at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Austin, TX and The Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Dayton, OH. John enjoyed tennis, softball and bridge. John’s family will receive friends on Thursday, November 20 from 4:30-7:30 PM at the Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 East Stroop Rd., Kettering. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 21, 2003 at 10:30 AM at The Lutheran Church of Our Savior. Burial will be in David’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in John’s name to Gethsemane Lutheran Church of Austin, TX, The Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 155 E.
