SPADE, John Robert, age 84, of Kettering, passed away Thursday, December 8, 2011. Bob was born July 10, 1927 in Muncie, IN, the son of Helen (Morrissey) and Carl Irving Spade. He was a graduate of Fairview High School in Dayton, a Veteran of the Army and a graduate of the University of Missouri. Never one to sit still, Bob retired as a salesman from the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and started a second career driving a bus for the Beavercreek City Schools. In his spare time, he was a volunteer chauffeur for disabled seniors, volunteered with the Beaver Creek Wetlands and enjoyed fishing and walking or riding his bike several miles each day. He delighted in bad jokes and good ice cream. He loved his family, vacations in Canada and his backyard pond. He played bridge as often as possible with AFS and at the Beavercreek, Fairborn and Hithergreen Senior Centers. In addition to being an amazing dad and grandfather, he was a Big Brothers' mentor.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of more than 53 yrs., Nancy (Shell) Spade. Bob is survived by his brother Lee (Pat) Spade; children, Susan (Jeff) Wehmeyer, Patricia (Vince) Madden, Robin (Greg) Rabideau and James (Jennifer) Spade; grandchildren, Anne (Paul) Cook, Ellen (Mark) Laubie, Mary Case, Clayton Rabideau, Isabelle Rabideau, Bezuayehu Rabideau and Anthony Spade; two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Noah Cook; and three nieces. The family wishes to thank Crossroads Hospice and the staff and caregivers from Synergy Home Care for their love, compassion and care, especially Heather, Anna, Destiny, and Mike.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at St. George's Episcopal Church, 5520 Far Hills Avenue, Dayton, OH 45429. Family will receive friends following the service in the church's Parish Hall. Inurnment will be at Woodland Cemetery.
