John W. Stuckey

STUCKEY, John W., age 90, of Kettering, OH, passed away on Friday, October 23, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. John was born to the late Nolen E. and Leta L. (nee Bowersock) Stuckey on March 2, 1925 in Van Wert, OH. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the Philippines. During his service he and his fianc Paula wrote letters to each other every single day. This act of love amounted to almost two thousand letters. These writings and the story behind them would be featured in the Dayton Daily News and WHIO for their 60th wedding anniversary. In their later years of marriage, John and Paula would read one letter a day together. John began his teaching career in Farmer, OH. He taught in Ohio City, St. Mary's and in Kettering. John had a lifelong passion for basketball from when he first learned to dribble, his time as a varsity player at Miami University and two decades as a high school coach and member of the Ohio High School Coaches Hall of Fame. John retired as Principal in 1981 from Fairmont High School. John and Paula would enjoy their retirement by traveling the world including Europe, England, Ireland, Spain and every state in the Union. They would spend their spring breaks in FL and summer vacations with family. He enjoyed coaching just about every sport there was, playing golf and most of all spending time with his family and beloved grandchildren. John was a member of the Lions Club and Kiwanis Club. He is preceded in death by his parents. John is survived by his loving wife of almost 70 years, Paula; children, Brent (Patti), Mark (Melody) and Scott (Annamarie) Stuckey; grandchildren, Matthew (Anne), Kevin, Allison, Philip and Kristina; and brother, Roger (Betty) Stuckey. Family will greet friends from 4:00pm-7:00pm on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd. Kettering, OH. Funeral services will follow at the funeral home.
