age 87, of Centerville, passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2003, at Grandview Hospital. John was born August 10, 1916 in Dayton, OH and was a graduate of Roosevelt High School, Class of 1935. He and his wife, Mary, were married on Valentine’s Day in 1938. John retired from the Aerospace Research Laboratory as a Design Engineering Technician at Wright-Patterson AFB after 35 years of service. John spent over 40 years of his life compiling information regarding his and his beloved wife’s genealogy. He was an accomplished artist and sculptor and was a member of the Dayton Society of Painters and Sculptors. John won many local and state awards and has paintings in many private collections. He attended night school art classes at the Dayton Art Institute, Wittenberg College and Sinclair Community College. John was a long time member of Shiloh Congregational Church. Preceded in death by his parents, John and Eva (Folweiler) Wohlslagel, who were born in Austria-Hungary; son, Jerry Wohlslagel, in 1997; sister, Eva (Wohlslagel) Paetz, in 1989; and brother, Andrew Wohlslagel, in 2003. Survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary; daughter, Bonnie and her husband, Harrison Crowe of Oakwood; 2 sons, John and his wife, Maria Wohlslagel of Martinsburg, WV and Mark and his wife, Selena Wohlslagel of Centerville; 5 grandchildren, Tyler and his wife, Vanessa Langley of Cincinnati, OH, Trishia and her husband, Anthony Monaco of Charlotte, NC, Mathew Langley and Kristi of Cleveland, OH, Dorothy and her husband, Patricio Williams of Boulder, CO, and Daniel Wohlslagel of Cincinnati, OH; 4 great grandchildren, Christine Mattos of San Francisco, CA, Tyler M. Monaco, Tori Louise Monaco and Bryn Langley; 2 sisters, Mary Laut of Dayton and Elizabeth and her husband, William Short of Kettering; daughter-in-law, Darleen Wohlslagel of Dayton; numerous loved nephews and nieces; and many dear friends. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering. Burial in Woodland Cemetery. The family will greet friends in the funeral home from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM prior to the service.
