GIORDANO, Joseph E., age 87, of Dayton, passed away peacefully, on Thursday, December 31, 2015 surrounded by his daughters.
Joe was born and raised in Camden, NJ. He was also a proud graduate of The College of William and Mary, where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Following graduation, he married his college sweetheart and served in the Korean War (CIC).
After climbing the corporate ladder and crisscrossing the country, Joe brought his family to Dayton. Here, he fulfilled the lifelong dream of owning his own business, Centerville Moving and Storage.
He was an active member of St. Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Church; a member of the SERRA Club of Dayton; an avid fan of the Dayton Flyers, Cincinnati Reds and OSU football; a member of Sycamore Creek Country Club; and a volunteer for Hospice.
In his later years, he belonged to NAIM. Joe loved to travel with his wife and once he finally agreed to retire, they spent winters in Sarasota, FL. There, he finally slowed down long enough to indulge in his passions, golf and tennis.
Joe was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Lawton (Scott). He is survived by his daughters, Amy (Charlie) Spallino of Danbury, CT, Cynthia (Curtis) Mitchell of Walnut Creek, CA, and Lucy (Tom) Downs of Dayton; 3 grandsons, Paul Spallino, Peter (Stephanie) Spallino, and Joe (Katie) Denniston; 2 step-granddaughters, Nikki Swisher, and Dana Downs; great-grandchildren, Eliana and Leonardo Spallino and Grace and Tommy Swisher. He is also survived by his sister, Gloria Giordano and sister-in-law, Connie Giordano, both of Cherry Hill, NJ, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. His family and friends will miss him greatly, but are blessed to have had him in their lives for so long.
