Paul Holcomb of Kettering Ohio passed away peacefully on December 4, 2024. His life is remembered as one of great giving to the community. He was a deacon, ERT and ID minister at Westminster church. Paul served as a past member of the Oakwood Board of Health, assistant Montgomery County coroner, and a board member at the HMO DayMed. He was past president of Kettering Rotary and a long-time volunteer at Kettering Hospital. Paul also served as a volunteer at the Dayton Art Institute.
His passion outside of family was Bengals Football and UC basketball. He officiated the games from the sofa, and recorded them for later critique. His passion for sports led him to serve as the president of the Oakwood Athletic Boosters and as a OHSAA football referee for 25 years.
Paul’s vocation as a Pharmacist started out at age 13 when he was the soda fountain jerk at Igler’s Pharmacy in Hartwell. There he met his best friend of over 70 years, Jim Gehring. He was a VP at Fidelity Rx in Dayton for 25 years.
Born in Springfield Ohio, Paul was raised in Cincinnati. He attended Walnut Hills HS (1955) and graduated from University of Cincinnati with a BSc in Pharmacy (’59) where he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. He met his wife, Marjorie, on a blind date at UC. She chased him all over campus until Paul came to his senses and proposed. They were married for 66 years and raised a loving family in Oakwood. Preceded in death by his daughter Susan (Scott) Lerner. He is survived by his wife Marjorie (Wheeler), sister Lois Hawkins, sons Mark (Sherry) and Jim (Cathy). Paul was incredibly proud of his 7 grandchildren: Kelsey (Robert) Lloyd; Sam, Tessa, Sean and Jamie Holcomb; Seth and Maya Lerner; and great-grandchild Stella Lloyd. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
There will be a celebration of life at Routsong Funeral Home in early 2025. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Kettering Medical Center or to the Dayton Art Institute.
