HAMPLE, Joseph M., age 83, of Centerville, OH passed away Thursday, March 23, 2006 at Heartland of Centerville. Joe was born in Binghamton, NY and is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ruth; and their children; Dale and his wife, Judi; Donna Ziegler and her husband, Stephen; Sandra Zeno and her husband, Pat Mattes; Neil Hample and his wife, Diane and Jean Schmidt and her husband, Paul, and 12 grandchildren; Kelsey and Jessica Hample, Eric and Spencer Ziegler, Dustin and Andrew Zeno, Nick, Lauren and Colleen Hample and Crystal, Matthew and Michael Schmidt. He was preceded in death by his brother, Alvin Hample. Joe graduated from Aeronautical University, Chicago, IL in 1948, the University of Dayton in 1961 and the Ohio State University in 1969. He retired as Chief of the Experimental Engineering Branch of the Flight Dynamics Laboratory at WPAFB in 1987 after 40 years of service. Joe began his career in 1948 in the Aircraft Lab as an Aeronautical Engineer. Over the course of his career, he made many significant contributions to the experimental wind tunnel facility development. His contributions included developments in the Subsonic, Transonic, Supersonic and Hypersonic speed ranges, as well as in Low Density and High Reynolds Number Facilities. Upon his retirement, Joe was awarded the Outstanding Career Service Medal for his accomplishments. After his retirement, he spent five years as a Business Development Manager for Micro Craft, Inc. Joe served in the United States Air Force for 4 years during WWII. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, loved to play golf, work on computers and bowl. Joe was a medal winner in Senior Olympics Bowling. A funeral service to celebrate Joe’s life and accomplishments will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at 3:00 PM at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 901 E. Stroop Rd. Kettering with Pastor Tom Prochaska and Pastor Sidney Nelson of Medicine Hat, Alberta officiating. Joe’s family will receive friends from 2-3:00 PM at the church prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made in Joe’s memory to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 901 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering, OH 45429 or to the University of Dayton-Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, 300 College Park, Dayton, OH 45469-0210.
