Joyce Privette Carr left this earth peacefully after 88 years, Friday, September 11, 2015, to join a heavenly host of family and friends! Joyce was born, July 9, 1927 in Florence, SC the daughter of Mac and Myrtle Privette. Joyce and her brother, David, grew up in Boy Scout camps as their father was a professional scouter, hence a love for the out of doors. Myrtle, their nurturing and innovative seamstress mother, gave them the gift of creativity. Joyce was a graduate of Fairview H.S., Dayton, OH and Salem College, Winston Salem, NC. She married John Lawrie Carr, August 6, 1949. Their children inherited a legacy of love for God and their fellow persons. Westminster Presbyterian Church, Dayton, OH holds memories of their wedding, baptisms, worship and numerous circles of friends. Joyce Carr was a butterfly! Wherever she landed, she spread joy and created smiles. She never knew a stranger. To come to Joyce and John's home was to experience southern hospitality, great food, wonderful conversation and a warm invitation to return. Joyce is survived by her son, David Carr and wife, Terri, Asheville, NC and daughter, Lawrie Carr, Mason, OH, and grandchildren, Erin Carr, New York City and Brett Carr, deployed U.S. Marine, and her brother, David Privette and wife, Pat, Adrian, MI. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A celebration of Joyce's life will take place at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Dayton, OH, on Friday, September 18, 2015 at 11 AM. Family will receive friends immediately after the service. As Joyce was an animal lover, memorials may be made to ASPCA.
