POMPEI, Karen Alane, age 53, of Centerville, passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 from complications of successful cancer treatments.
She was born on February 19, 1963 in Willoughby, Ohio to Arthur and Jean (Uhlir) Malecek. Karen graduated from Willoughby South High School and earned her Master's degree in Music Education from Bowling Green University. She was a music teacher at Norton City Schools in Akron, Ohio and Sugarcreek Local Schools in Bellbrook, Ohio. She enjoyed dog agility both as a judge and competitor and was an active member of the Gem City Dog Obedience Club.
Karen performed in the Centerville Community Band and the Lakeland Civic Band. Karen is preceded in death by her beloved dogs, Louie, Chip, and Eddie. She is survived by her loving husband of 23 years, Tom Pompei; her parents; brothers, Ken (Kathy) and Keith Malecek; nephews Kevin (Nora) and Kurt (Tiffany) Malecek; and her dog, Mario.
A memorial celebration of Karen's life designed by Karen will be held on Sunday, May 1st from 3:00-5:00 P.M. at Crossview Christian Church, 4237 E Social Row Rd, Waynesville, Ohio 45068. At the memorial, we would like to invite everyone to share pot luck food and their favorite story of Karen. If you cannot attend, please send your stories to Tom at TPompei@woh.rr.com.
The family would like to thank Dr. Dwayne A. Sigmund whose treatment gave Karen her last twenty years and also the staff at Kettering Medical Center for all their dedicated care.
