HEMMELGARN, Kathryn, age 83 of Kettering, passed away at Hospice of Dayton on January 24, 2006. She was a lifetime member of St. Helen’s Parish and an Army nurse during WWII. Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph H. Hemmelgarn, parents Louis and Bernadina Barhorst, 4 brothers and 2 sisters. She is survived by her 9 children, Kenneth (Pamela) and their children, Karla and Bradley of Dayton; Nina (Sandy) of Orange Park, FL; Michael (Jeno) and their children Brianna (David) Thrift, Kristina (William) Sparrow and Philip of Apex, NC; Gregory of Carrollton, TX; Douglas (Debe) and their son, P.J.; Beth of Dayton, OH; Jean Slonaker and her children, Melissa (Scott) Jacobs, Thomas, and Jamie of Dayton; Lori of Kettering; and Jeffrey (Laurel) and their children, Austin and Courtney of Kettering, OH and 3 great-grandchildren, Drew Thrift, Alex Thrift and Madeleine Sparrow;brother-in-law, David (Anita)Hemmelgarn; sisters-in-law, Mary (John) Mowry, and Salome (Leo) Streaker and numerous other relatives. She was dedicated to her family and always lived her life to the fullest, so Kathryn’s family will celebrate her life with a visitation on Friday from 5-8:00PM at the Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 10:00AM at St. Helen Parish, 5086 Burkhart Rd., Dayton with Father Dave Brinkmoeller officiating. Kathryn will be buried in Calvary Cemetery immediately following the Mass. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Helen Parish in memory of Kathryn Hemmelgarn, 605 Granville Place, Dayton, OH 45431.
