Kenneth Lawrence Barnhouse

Kenneth "Ken" Barnhouse, a beloved resident of Kettering, Ohio, passed away on Monday, September 23, 2024, at the age of 89. Born on October 17, 1934, in Caldwell, Ohio, to Harvey and Gladys Barnhouse, Ken lived a full life surrounded by love and laughter.

Ken's journey was one of service and dedication. After proudly serving in the United States Army, he began a long and fulfilling career at Dayton Reliable Tool and Company, where he invested over three decades of hard work. Ken found his life's joy in his marriage to his beloved wife, Anna Mae Mantia, on August 8, 1959. Together, they raised four children, Susan, Steve, Sandy, and Scott, and built a home filled with love and warmth in Kettering, Ohio. 

Known for his green thumb, Ken's passion for gardening earned him numerous accolades, including the Kettering Neighborhood Pride award for his meticulously kept yard. An avid bowler, Ken found friendship and camaraderie in the "Beanie Bowlers" league, showcasing his competitive spirit and bringing joy to those around him.

With a heart as big as his smile, Ken never met a stranger and cherished the bonds of friendship that he formed throughout his life's journey. His infectious personality and love for people extended to animals, especially his beloved cat, Annie, who found a safe haven in his care.

In his later years, Ken found immense joy in his role as a grandfather and great-grandfather, showering his descendants with love and wisdom. His memory will be cherished by his children, Susan Gaston, Steve Barnhouse, Sandy VanEtten, and Scott Barnhouse, along with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held to celebrate Ken's life on Friday, September 27, 2024, from 10 am to noon at Routsong Funeral Home Kettering Chapel (2100 E Stroop Rd), followed by a touching funeral service at noon. Ken will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery, next to his beloved wife, Anna Mae Mantia-Barnhouse, and their memories will forever shine bright in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
