Kenneth Richard Berta, affectionately known as Ken or Kenny, passed away peacefully at Kettering Hospital on December 18th, 2023, at the age of 58. Born on December 22nd, 1964, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, Ken was the beloved son of Fred and Phyllis Berta.
Ken spent his formative years in Beavercreek, Ohio, and graduated from Beavercreek High School in 1983. Following his passion for science and technology, he pursued a degree in Biomedical Engineering at Wright State University. It was during this time that as a young chef, he serendipitously crossed paths with Jennifer Delaney, who worked as a hostess at Sugar Valley Country Club. Their connection was instantaneous, and after five years of courtship, they exchanged vows in a beautiful ceremony on November 17th, 1990.
Settling down in Lebanon, Ohio, Ken and Jennifer embarked on a life filled with love, laughter, and endless adventures. Ken bolstered his career by earning a Master's Degree in Business Administration from Xavier University in 1997. Throughout his professional journey, he held various esteemed positions at renowned organizations such as Ferno Washington, Yellow Springs Institute, Phillips Technology, Global Health Initiative (CDC), and Dell Technologies Life Science Division. Ken's groundbreaking contributions to the field of life sciences earned him numerous accolades, including a spot on Forbes' prestigious "40 Under 40" list of influential leaders. He proudly held five patents, leaving a lasting impact on the industry.
Beyond his professional achievements, Ken possessed a deep passion for enriching his community and spending cherished moments with his loved ones. He dedicated his time to volunteer work at a local children's theater and while serving on the board he utilized his creativity as a set designer. In his downtime, Ken enjoyed both creating mouthwatering dishes in his kitchen and savoring the finest cuisine from around the world. A true connoisseur, Ken's taste buds were always on a culinary adventure.
Traveling was one of Ken's greatest joys, and he left no stone unturned on his globetrotting escapades. Ken embraced every opportunity to immerse himself in different cultures and create lasting memories. In his quieter moments, he found solace on the golf course, engaged with his favorite books, or engrossed in the fantastical worlds of Marvel comics and Star Wars.
Ken will forever be remembered and deeply missed by his adoring wife of 33 years, Jennifer Delaney-Berta, and their beloved son, Spencer Delaney Berta. Additionally, he leaves behind his cherished parents, Fred and Phyllis Berta, and his dear sisters, Jannine Leinberger and Barb(Danny) Voris, along with Nephews Ryan, Trey, Shane, Kane and favorite niece, Tosca.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Mike and Denise Taylor, the compassionate nursing staff at Kettering Medical Center, as well as Geoff Hahm and Mike Valante, and many other friends and coworkers for their unwavering support during this difficult time.
A celebration of Ken's life will take place on December 28th at Routsong Funeral Home Kettering Chapel (2100 E Stroop Rd). Visitation will be held from 3pm- 5pm with a memorial service starting at 5pm. In honor of Ken's passion for supporting others, the family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Shriner Hospital of Lexington, Kentucky, or the American Cancer Society.
Let the Avengers assemble, May the force be with you, May you live long and prosper To infinity and beyond.
