BRIGHTMAN, Sr., Kenneth "Ken", age 85, of Kettering, quietly slipped away with his angel on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Walnut Creek.
He was born in Dayton, Ohio to Percy and Vesta Brightman on January 18, 1925.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents; and by siblings Ruth Ella (Louie) Yeager, Ralph (Irene) Brightman, Stanley and Norman Brightman.
He is survived by his wife of 62 yrs., Mary (Miller) Brightman; son Ken Jr., (Karla) Brightman; daughter Gail (Sam) Longo; brother Roger (Ruth) Brightman of AZ and Lawrence Brightman; grandchildren Kenny III (Veronica) and Kyle (Diana) Brightman of St. Louis, MO, Matt Smith and Shelley (Jason) Zimmerman of Columbus; great-grandchildren Kain, Josh and Jocelin Smith; and brother-in-law Claude Miller.
Ken served as a medic in the U.S. Army in Germany and France. He returned home and began his tool-making career. Ken started his own successful business, Star Mold and Tool which produced precision injection molds for over 50 yrs.
Ken was a Mason for over 60 yrs. and affiliated with Riverview Lodge # 717 F. & A.M., Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton 32nd degree and was one of the founders of the Antioch Shrine Pipers (bagpipe). He was also a member of the Courtiers (a male a cappella group).
Ken was passionate about playing golf and being on the water boating and fishing. He also loved snowmobiling through the beautiful Michigan forests of "God's Country". We all know it was much more about the friendships than the sport itself.
Ken and Mary had a log cottage on Platte Lake in Northern Michigan where they enjoyed the summers, and a condo in Vero Beach, Florida where they could stay warm in the winter playing golf. Ken treasured his wife Mary and they were always together celebrating life. They truly had a blessed marriage of 62 years.
Ken is gone, but will not be forgotten always the life of the party sharing jazz and jokes with anyone who was around him. He never met a stranger and was loved by all who knew him. He "unlocked the child" in everyone.
