CHRISTMAN, Kenneth Ivan, (Ken), age 89, of Dayton, Ohio passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2018. Ken was born in Huntington, Indiana, on November 30, 1929 to Herbert and Margaret (Chamberlain) Christman. He was a graduate of Huntington High School, class of 1947. He earned his Bachelors Degree from Indiana University in 1962 and his Master's Degree from Miami University in 1969.
Ken had a distinguished military career that included being part of the Army occupation of Germany after World War Two. He went on to serve as a military police officer, and later served within the Military Intelligence Corps. He received a medal for his contribution to the Berlin Airlift.
Ken was an art teacher at the West Carrollton high School for 30 years. He was also an adjunct professor at Indiana University and Sinclair Community College. In retirement, he sold real estate and continued to paint landscape portraits, generously gifting them to family and friends until the end of his life. He was an active member of St Henrys' Catholic Church.
He enjoyed discussing politics, art, history, and travel with everyone he met. Ken had a passion for family ancestry and tracked and documented our family lineage dating back to the early 1600's.
Most of all, Ken was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Ken is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Margaret Christman, three siblings, Bernice, Mildred and Norman Christman and by his German bride and wife of 60 years, Erika Christman, (nee Ziegler).
He is survived by his 3 children; Diana (Keith) Long, Kurt Christman, and Rebecca (Robert) Chaulk; 4 grandchildren, Justin Drake, Jessica (Jason) Mckendree, Jarrod Christman, and Emily Long; and great-grandson, Jackson McKendree.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Monday, September 17, 2018 at St.Henry's Catholic Church, 6696 N. Springboro Pike, Dayton Ohio, with procession to the Burial Service at Calvary Cemetery, 1625 Calvary Cemetery Ave. Dayton, Ohio following.
