YOUNKMAN, Kenneth Wayne, age 79, of Dayton, succumbed to Parkinson’s disease on Sunday morning, August 12, 2007. Born in Bluffton, Ohio, Ken spent most of his life in Ohio with summer retreats to Crystal Lake, Michigan. Ken was a graduate of Miami University (1950), a U.S. Marine who served in Korea, a Rotarian, a VP of Sales for Spaulding Fibre for over 25 years, and an independent businessman and owner of “Sweetwater Sweets” candy store. Ken Younkman, aka “Big Bird”, was loved for his clarity of perception, his keen wit, his gentle nature and the ease with which he conveyed his lessons to others. He will be mightily missed by many. Ken is survived by Charlotte, his wife of 57 years; four children, David Younkman (Anne McEnany), Kay Younkman (Rich Clements), Steve Younkman (Amy), and Judy McClain (Tim); his sister Lauretta; and 8 grandchildren, Andrew (Jessica), Ben, Kyle, Bryce, Trisha, Sarah, Mitchell and Maggie. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 14, 2007 at 6:30 PM at the Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Road, Kettering. Family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
