POWELL, Laura Ellen (Geer), age 95 of Centerville passed away October 26, 2008 at Liberty of Washington Township where she had lived for the past six years. Born in London, Ohio on May 9, 1913 to Edward Preston Geer and Mary Eunice (O'Day) Geer. She was a former Appellate Court reporter for the counties of Madison, Clark, Champaign, Fayette, Greene and Shelby. She married Parker W. Powell in 1935 and shortly thereafter they moved to Wilmington, Ohio where her children (twins), John Parker and Judith Ellen were born. The family moved to Dayton in 1945. Ellen worked as a legal secretary for several prominent law firms in Dayton. She retired in 1971 from Coolidge, Wall, Womsley and Lombard as Mr. Womsley's secretary. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and a volunteer at Kettering Medical Center for 25 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years in 2003 and her son, Capt. John P. Powell, KIA in Vietnam in 1970. She is survived by her daughter, Judith E. Powell of Centerville and brother, Edward O. Geer of Denver, Co. Plus, several nephews, a niece and a brother-in-law from the Powell family. Graveside services will be held at 3:00PM on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at Somerford Cemetery, Madison County, Ohio.
