Leland V., Jr. Norris

NORRIS, Leland V., Jr. “Junior” age 77, of Kettering, passed away Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at Miami Valley Hospital. Junior was a 1947 graduate of Fairmont High School and a charter member of the Kettering Fairmont Athletic Hall of Fame. In 1952, he received his B.S. Degree in Education from the University of Dayton, and served as captain of the 1952 UD Basketball team which included the trip to the NIT finals. From September 1953- June 1955, Junior was a teacher at Fairmont High School and coached basketball, baseball, and football. Junior served as the Montgomery County Clerk of Common Pleas Court from 1976 to 1988. Junior was a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, the Masonic Lodge Riverview #7717 F&AM, Scottish Rite, A.A.S.R., Antioch Shrine Temple, the Flyer’s Club, a University of Dayton Varsity “D” Honorary Lifetime Member; member of the UD Athletic Hall of Fame, the Dayton Amateur Baseball Commission Hall of Fame and the Dayton Agonis Club. Junior was preceded in death by his parents, Leland Sr. and Gladys Norris, brother, Donald Norris and sister, Jean Crago. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Marilyn Norris; 4 children, Linda (Stuart) Petersen, Craig (Deb) Norris, John Norris and Patty (Bob) Baird; 3 grandchildren, Joe and John Norris and Lisa Petersen; 1 great-grandson, Joe Norris; 2 brothers, Edgar (Sharon) Norris and Ralph (Peg) Norris and sister, Marilyn Shoemaker as well as numerous nieces, nephews, close friends and former teammates. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 2, 2007 at 10:00 AM at The Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 155 E. Thruston, Oakwood with The Rev. Gary Eichhorn officiating. Burial in David’s Cemetery. The family will greet friends Monday, from 3-7:00 PM at the Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering.
