Leo O. Vanhoose

VAN HOOSE, Leo O., “Ott” age 84, of Kettering, Ohio, formerly of Paintsville, went to Heaven to live eternally with God on Thursday September 28, 2006. He passed after a 7 year struggle with Parkinson’s disease. Ott, was born in Tutor Key, KY son to Ora and Bert E. Van Hoose. Ott and his wife, Maxine, were members of Westwood Methodist Church in Cincinnati, OH. He was a devoted and committed husband who cherished his wife, and a dedicated father who gave unconditional love to his children and grandchildren. Growing up in Paintsville, he was captain of the Tigers football & basketball teams. He was a past President of the Kiwanis in Paintsville. All his life Ott loved all sports; hunting, fishing and in later years enjoyed golf and bowling. However, his lifelong passion was flying. He and Maxine enjoyed residences in Ohio and Florida after retirement. Ott served in the Royal Canadian Air Force and later in the United States Army Air Corp, during WWII, as a pilot with the rank of Captain. He moved his family from Paintsville to Cincinnati in 1953 to attend the Cincinnati Bible Seminary. Ott was ordained at the First Christian Church of Paintsville and served his Lord as Pastor at several churches in IN and KY from 1954-1960. He then entered a career in education and retired in 1984 as Principal of Roselawn Elementary School in Cincinnati. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert E. and Ora E. Van Hoose, and his niece Paula Joy Conley. Ott is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Maxine (Maggard) Van Hoose; son, Eric (Nancy) Van Hoose of Kettering, OH; 2 daughters, Deidre (Michael) Webb of Kettering, OH and Karen (Garry) Varney of Edmond, OK; dear sister Lettrice (Frank) Conley of Paintsville, KY; 6 grandchildren; beloved “Papa” of Brian, Rob, Sara, E.J., Laura and Leigh Anne; 3 great-grandchildren; Amber, Drew and Tyler. His family is so blessed by and thankful to God for Ott’s life as beloved husband, endeared father, precious “Papa” and loved brother-in-law. He was called dear friend of others in many areas of life, and we are so thankful for his very dear, old friendships in Paintsville, that he held so close to his heart. Ott was loved and respected by all who knew him, and well known for his love of life, sense of humor, wit, dedication in all things, his values, and his love for all things honorable, noble and worthy. He was a light on this Earth, with joy in his soul, that shined brightly for our Lord. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
