WHITNEY, Leon A., age 88, died on June 2, 2018.
Loving husband of Betsy B. Whitney for over 65 years. Preceded in death by his parents Richard A. and Mary T. Whitney, and brother Richard T. Whitney. Survived by his wife Betsy, son Richard A. Whitney, daughters Anne W. Chatfield and husband William, and Molly W. Grant and husband Doug. Also survived by his grandchildren, Will Chatfield, Fran Chatfield and Emma Whitney.
Lee was a 1952 graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University. He was proud to be an Eagle Scout and to have served as a U.S. Marine during the Korean War. Following his marriage to Betsy in 1953, he joined her father, Robert F. Baldwin, Sr., at the B.C. Coleman Insurance Agency, later to become the Baldwin and Whitney Insurance Agency. Lee was an enthusiastic leader in many community organizations including Dayton Childrens, the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance, the Dayton YMCA- Camp Kern, Westminster Presbyterian Church and Dayton History-Carillon Park. Recently the volunteer activities closest to his heart were Westminster ID Ministry and the Carillon Park Print Shop.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm on Friday, June 8, 2018 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 125 N. Wilkinson St. Dayton, OH. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a gift in Lees memory may contribute to the organization of their choice. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.routsong.com.
