Leonard Paul Knoles

KNOLES, Leonard P., age 90 of Kettering passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at Hospice of Dayton. He was born October 6, 1917 in Newport, RI to James and Alice Knoles and was a 1935 graduate of Cuyahoga Falls High School. Leonard was a member of David's United Church of Christ in Kettering. He retired from Wright Patterson Air Force Base as a Weapons Systems Management Engineer after 37 years of service and was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps. On November 20, 1941 at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Leonard married Mary (Wirsching). He was active in many organizations; Past Master of Mystic Lodge #405, Past High Priest of Unity Chapter #16, Past District deputy Grand High Priest, Reese Council #9, Reed Commandery #6, Scottish Rite, Valley of Dayton 33rd degree Mason, and Past Potent Master Thrice of Gabriel Lodge of Perfection. Leonard was Past Monarch of Ormus Grotto, the Mariner's Club of Dayton, Past Sovereign Master of the Thomas Smith Webb Council #57, Past Patron of Harvest Chapter #564 O.E.S., Harmony Shrine #38, White Shrine of Jerusalem, Past Watchman of Shepherds Royal Order of Scotland, the Antioch Shrine and member of the Past Master's Club of the Antioch Shrine and Kettering Senior Citizens. Leonard and Mary traveled all over the country and Europe. He was an avid golfer who hit a hole in one at Community Golf Course. Leonard is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Mary; 3 sisters, Josephine Greenleaf of FL, Marie Wernersbeck and Elsie Knoles of Cuyahoga Falls, OH and special friends Bob & Angenette Carpenter. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at 10:00 AM at the Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering with Rev. Virginia A. Duffy officiating. Burial in Woodland Cemetery. Family will receive friends Monday July 28, 2008 from 4-7:00 PM with the Mistic Lodge AASR/OES ceremony at 7:00PM at the funeral home.
