SPATZ, Lila, age 80, of Dayton, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2003. She was a 1940 graduate of Steele High School, graduated from Miami Jacobs Junior College and attended the University of Dayton. Lila was co-owner and operator of Spatz Tavern on Xenia Ave. for a number of years and later an insurance agent and underwriter for Payne Insurance Agency. After retirement, she served as Executive Director of WORDS (Western Ohio Reading Development Services) and was active in the Kettering C.I.L. Card Club. Lila was also an avid scuba diver. In the early 70's, she turned her hobby of scuba diving into a career as the manager of the Cayman Kai Resort on the Island of Grand Cayman. She was preceded in death in 1962 by her husband, Thomas. Lila is survived by her two daughters, Teresa J. (Charles) Johnson, Lisa M. Spatz and granddaughter, Emily A. (Zachary) Avila, all of Dayton; a host of nieces and nephews; and special friends, Ned Showalter and Lucille Pooler. A memorial service will be held Friday, February 28 at 6:00 PM at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering. Family will receive friends from 4-6:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, OH 45401.
