BACK, Lillian “Irene” (Nickell), age 90 of Vandalia, OH, passed away Monday September 19, 2011. Preceded in death by her one and only love, husband James; her parents, William O. & Ethel (Hughes) Nickell; brothers, William & Donald; sisters, Nelda, Louise, Ruby and sister-in-law Julia. Irene is survived by sons, James W. Back Sr. (Vicki) and Forest H. Back Sr. (Barbara); Grandchildren from James Sr.: Kristen (Rick) Drake, James Jr. "Jamie", Brian (Lauren), Charles "Chuckie”, and Nicole (Matt) Gostomsky; Grandchildren from Forest Sr.: Leah (Ron) Lark, Forest "Jr." (Wendy), and William "BJ' (Hilary); Great-grandchildren from James Sr.: Brian's (Gracie, Machella, Brian Jr.) Chuckie's (Reagan, Zane) and Nicole's (Mason, Reece, Hayden); Great-grandchildren from Forest Sr.: Blayre, Ryan, Damion, Sharonda, Ashton and Hyacinth. Siblings, Ronald (Mary) Nickell, Meryl (Pauline) Nickell, and Beryl Nickell. Numerous nieces, great nieces, nephews and great nephews. Irene was very blessed with loving neighbors Charles "Chuck" & Darlene Clemens. Very dear friends Marilyn Cox, Marilyn Hartz and Cathy Terry.
Irene was born in Hooppole, IL and as a child Irene moved with her family in (1929) to Ezel, Kentucky where she resided until the family moved to Dayton, OH in 1940. Irene worked at Sunshine Biscuit and then Delco Products in Dayton. Irene saved money with her father William and her sister Louise to purchase a 105 acre working farm at Pinegrove Kentucky in 1945. In 1948 she met and married her beloved husband James, they then moved back to Dayton the same year. In 1953 Irene worked along with and supported her husband in building their business Rubber-Tech, Inc. and continued to work there until January of 2011.
Irene was fortunate to have travelled and cruised the world, ( Las Vegas being her favorite vacation spot). Irene loved getting away from the cold winters and spending warm winters at her home in Florida quilting. Irene also enjoyed bowling and watching baseball, basketball and golf. To know Irene was to love her. Sadly missed cannot even express how she will be truly missed, none of us can imagine, life without her!
The Family will receive guest from11:00am – 1:00pm on Thursday September 22, 2011 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Road, Kettering. Funeral Service will begin at 1:00pm at the funeral home with Chaplain Jim Hopkins officiating. Interment to follow at Dayton Memorial Park.
