HENKEL, Lillian Lewis, age 94, died peacefully in her Centerville home February 22, 2014.
Raised on a farm in Findlay by the late Blaine and Almeda Lewis, Lillian graduated as a registered nurse from Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Cincinnati, working at Miami Valley Hospital, Kettering Medical Center, and two private practices during her lifetime.
A Fairmont Presbyterian Church member, she cross-stitched over forty baptismal samplers and served as an elder, Sunday school superintendent, and kitchen aide. Happily married to Harry Donald Henkel for 69 years, she traveled with her husband to almost every state, sixteen countries, and even the Artic Circle. While residing in Oakwood, she was a devoted stay-at-home mother.
Lillian loved birding, gardening, sewing, knitting, crocheting, cross-stitching, and quilting. She appreciated fine art and classical music and enjoyed antique dolls and vintage crystal dishes.
Lillian is lovingly remembered and survived by her four children: Donald, Margaret, Mary Jane (Richard) Hall, David (Chris); Hall grandchildren: Lora Bailey (great-grandchildren Justin and Rachael), Lisa, Jeanna, Brent; and Henkel grandchildren: Karl, Hannah (great-grandchild Connor), Jacob. Preceded in death by her husband and three siblings (Wilber Lewis, Luther Lewis, Ruth Lloyd), she is survived by her sister, Jean Mareches.
Her funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. March 8 at Routsong Funeral Home, 81 N. Main Street, Centerville, with burial to follow at Centerville Cemetery. Family will receive guests back at the funeral home afterward.
