Barnes, Lois E., (nee Gessaman) age 82, of Dayton died Saturday, August 6, 2005 after a lengthy battle with cancer at Hospice of Dayton. Preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Bruce B. Barnes in 1998, and parents R.B. and Elsie Gessaman, grandson Max Barnes, and sister-in-law Margaret Gessaman. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Connie and David Tackett; 2 sons, Thomas B. of Newport News, VA, and C. Edward Barnes of Hampton, VA; 5 grandchildren, Randy Mayer, Rachel and Carl Barnes, Sean Klemm and Sarah Tackett; brothers, Robert Gessaman and Stanley and wife, Alma Gessaman; many nieces, nephews and a host of friends. She retired from Kimrey-Black Insurance Agency. Lois was a member of Memorial United Church of Christ after being organist and choir director at First United Church of Christ of Dayton for many years. She was a life member of VFW Auxiliary Post #2800, a member of the Kettering “Clack & Clatter” Kitchen Band, Southern Ohio Banjo Society and also played the organ for the “lunch bunch” at Charles I. Lathrem Senior Center. She helped for the last 50 years on the reunion committee for the Class of 1940 of Steele High School. Funeral service will be held Thursday, August 11, 2005 at 11:00 AM at the Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd. Burial in Heritage Hills Cemetery. Family will receive friends Wednesday from 5-8:00 PM with VFW Auxillary services at 7:30 PM at the funeral home.
