THOMPSON, Lyle V., age 85, of Oakwood, passed away on Monday, January 16, 2017. Lyle was born on June 24, 1931 in Melvin, IL to Lyle and Louise Thompson.
He was Veteran Staff Sergeant of the US Army and was the original owner and President of Vork Motor Transport. Lyle was a member of American Legion Post 0598, VFW Post 6069, SAR, and Kettering and Dayton Sertoma Club. As a member of the Franklin-Springboro Rotary, he received the Paul Harris Fellow award. He was a past member of David's Church.
Lyle is preceded in death by his parents; son, Lyle Thomas Thompson; and sister, Barbara Plackett.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Virginia Thompson; daughters, Mary (Douglas) Parrish of Florida and Anne Thompson of Dayton; grandchildren, Carolyn Parrish, Steve (Emilie) Parrish, Grant Pepper, and Lauren Pepper; great-grandchildren, Sophie Parrish and Avery Weiss; brother, Raymond (Louise) Thompson; sister, Linda (Frank) Page; best friend, Ron Hamilton; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00pm on Monday, January 23, 2017 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 East Stroop Rd., Kettering. The family will also greet friends following the service until 5:30pm.
