Mable Tanner Hummon

January 12, 1905 — April 13, 2001

age 96 of Oakwood, died Friday, April 13, 2001. Mrs. Hummon was the widow of J. Mack Hummon, former Oakwood teacher, administrator, coach and popular Miami Valley sports figure. She was born in Bluefield, West Virginia and graduated from Wittenberg University in 1926, moving to Oakwood as a young bride in 1927. Mable was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and the local chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. However, she will be best remembered for her warm, friendly and gracious personality and for sharing her gift of love with all of her family and friends, old and new. Survived by a daughter and her husband, Courtney and Phil Hammond, of Phoenix, AZ; 2 grandsons and their wives, George Mack and Meghan Hammond, of San Diego, CA and Scott Philip and Amy Hammond, of Scottsdale, AZ; 5 great grandchildren, Julia and Marguerite of San Diego, CA and Jack, Kate and Reilly of Scottsdale, AZ. Private entombment at Woodland Mausoleum. A memorial service will be held at the mausoleum at 11:00 A.M., Thursday with the Rev. John F. Koepke III officiating. Friends may visit with the family at the mausoleum. If desired, contributions may be made to the Oakwood School Education Foundation, C/O The Oakwood Board of Education, 20 Rubicon Rd., Dayton, Ohio 45409. Arrangements by Routsong Funeral Home.
