Mae Elaine Zonars

ZONARS, Mae Elaine (Freund), age 78, died Tuesday, August 15, 2000, at Hospice. Devoted wife of Demetrius Zonars for 52 years. She embraced his religion, Greek Orthodox, early in their married life and became so knowledgeable in it, she conducted classes in Orthodoxy for various groups. She also introduced a spiritual library at the church, and trained others to continue her work. Mae was a member of The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Philoptochos Society and the Philoptochos Library. Preceded in death by her husband, Demetrius, and her mother, Mary Kays, both of Dayton; father, Roy Freund, and brother-in-law, George Zonars of Birmingham, Michigan. Survivors include a brother, Robert Freund and his wife, Jean, of Michigan; cousin, Mary Umpterspun of Macon, Georgia; sisters-in-law, Marie Zonars Dandelles of Dayton, and Lillian Zonars of Birmingham, Michigan; 4 nieces, Connie Hanselman of Dayton, Joanne Robbins of Florida, Anthea Zonars of Birmingham, Michigan and Athena Zonars of New York City; nephew, John Zonars, also of New York City; 3 cousins-in-law, Demetrius C. Zonars, Marilyn Floridis Tolnitch and Theodore Floridis, all of Dayton; and close friends, Betty and Tony Fiore, of Dayton. Her quiet grace will be remembered by all who knew her. Visitation will be held Friday from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. in Routsong Funeral Home, 6 Oakwood Ave. at Irving, Oakwood, with Trisagion Prayers at 7:30 P.M.. The funeral service will be held in The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 500 Belmonte Park North at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, with prayers at 9:30 A.M. in the funeral home.
