age 69 of Kettering, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001. He graduated from Steubenville High School in 1949, Ohio State University in 1953 and the Ohio State University College of Medicine in 1957. Dr. Freese was a Lieutenant with the U.S. Navy, serving as a Medical Officer at the U.S. Naval Station in San Diego, CA and also served in the Naval Reserves. He served his internship at Miami Valley Hospital from 1957 to 1958 and his residency in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology at the Veterans Administration Hospital from 1961 to 1964. Dr. Freese was affiliated with Kettering Medical Center, Sycamore Medical Center, Miami Valley Hospital and St. Elizabeth Medical Center. At Kettering Medical Center he was Physician of the Year in 1971, Teacher of the Year in 1971-72, Chief of Staff Elect in 1976-77, Chief of Staff from 1977-79, and established and was the Director of the GI Unit from 1975-1990. At Wright State University School of Medicine, he was a member of the committee assigned to select the first Dean, past Chairman of the Awards Committee, Clinical Physician of the Year in 1991 and Clinical Professor of Medicine, Emeritus in 1995. He was a member of the Advisory Committee, Department of Medicine, and the Wright State University Academy of Medicine. Dr. Freese was a member of the American Medical Association, Ohio State Medical Association, Montgomery County Medical Association, Dayton Society of Internal Medicine, and Alpha Epsilon Delta, the National Premedical Honor Society. An avid fisherman, Dr. Freese was a member of the Oakwood Fur, Fin and Feather Club and the Centerville Rod and Reel Club. He was also a member of St. George's Episcopal Church and the Montgomery County Medical Society Men's Glee Club. After a long and distinguished career, Dr. Freese retired in 1991, but continued as a volunteer physician (Gastroenterology) at the Senior Friendship Center in Sarasota, Florida. Survived by his wife of 44 years, Gwen (Stingley); 3 sons, Marc and his wife, Linda of Scottsdale, AZ, David of Front Royal, VA, and Michael and his wife, Tracy of Kettering; 4 grandchildren, Beth and Carrie of Scottsdale, AZ and Tyler and Matthew of Kettering; a brother, Dr. Clyde O. Freese and his wife, Carol of Cincinnati; an aunt, Elizabeth Freese of Upland, IN; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and also, very special friends, Willard Yarema, Tom Zelinsky and Ben Glenn, II. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 A.M., Monday in St. George's Episcopal Church, 5520 Far Hills Ave., Dayton with The Rev. Carol W. Hull officiating. Burial in Sugar Grove Cemetery, Wilmington, Ohio. The family will greet friends from 3-6:00 P.M., Sunday at the Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering.
