Margaret G. Kerezsi

KEREZSI, Margaret G., age 88, of Kettering, passed away Sunday, January 30, 2005. She was born December 17, 1916, in Shiner, TX. Margaret graduated from Shiner High School, TX and St. Mary’s School of Nursing. She enlisted in the US Army prior to Pearl Harbor, and served as a Captain until 1947 including a period of time at Walter Reed Hospital and then WPAFB Hospital. On D-Day, she was assigned to one of the first field hospitals in Normandy and subsequent field hospitals as the war progressed through Northern France, Ardennes and Central Europe. Margaret’s decorations included American Defense Medal, American Campaign Medal and Army of Occupation Medal (Germany). She was a charter member of Women in Military Service for America. Margaret and her family attended its dedication ceremony in Washington DC in 1997. She worked as an RN at Grandview Hospital in Dayton and retired after 20 years of service. She was also a successful amateur artist. Margaret was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church for more than 30 years. She was a life member of VFW, member and Regent of Daughters of Isabella, St. Anne’s Circle and the Lathrem Center, Kettering. She was a member of the Magyar Club of Dayton. Preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Johanna Sofka; three brothers, John, Otto and Clement Sofka; twin sisters, Hermina Dudik and Bessie Sweeney. Survived by her husband, Michael A. Kerezsi of 58 years; three children, Mary Margaret Jehn (Donald) of Ellicott City, MD, Elizabeth Ann (Betty) Shockley (Tom) of Huntington Beach, CA and Michael J. (Jim) Kerezsi (Lenora) of Newark, DE; five grandchildren, Elisa, Christine Margarette, Kathrynne “Katey” Jehn, Joseph Michael and Matthew Taylor Kerezsi; sisters-in-law, Annie and Christie Sofka; nieces, Connie, Linda, Ada Faye, Patricia, Annie Lee, Lydia and Rosalie; nephews, Paul David, Marcus Sofka and James; and a host of other great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, February 3, 2005, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 4500 Ackerman Blvd., Kettering with Father Eric Bowman officiating. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 4-8:00 PM, Wednesday, February 2, 2005, at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering.
