Marion Stoner died peacefully of late stage Alzheimer's disease on November 6, 2012. She was born in May of 1936 in Buffalo, NY, and moved to Dayton as a child.
Marion graduated from Vandalia-Butler High School in 1955 and Duke University in 1959. She married Tom Stoner in 1960, and focused most of her energy on family and community activities. Music, whether playing her violin, singing in choirs, or ringing hand bells brought her great joy. She was an early advocate for environmental issues and enthusiastically endorsed the sustainability movement.
Marion was preceded in death by her husband, and is survived by her sons and grandsons, (Albert H. Stoner III, wife Susan and Albert H. Stoner IV of Charlotte, NC; and Edward W. Stoner, wife Elyse and Mitchell and Drew Stoner of Portland, OR); and by her sisters (Nancy Gorman of Denton, TX, and Barbara Atcheson of Seattle, WA) as well as many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Dayton on Friday, November 16th at 1 p.m. The family would like to express our thanks for the wonderful care provided by Hospice of Dayton and the staff at Brookdale Place of Oakwood. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Rails to Trails Conservancy www.railstotrails.org or the Student Conservation Association www.thesca.org .
