Jay, Marjorie H., age 85, passed away on April 28, 2015 in her home while surrounded by loved ones.
Marj was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Charles E. Jay, her parents, Homer and Irene Hole, and her sister, Marilyn Bohlander. She is survived by her two daughters, Carrie J. Rogge, and Julie Jay McCracken of Del Mar, CA; her son-in-law, Lee McCracken; and two grandchildren, Leslie and Alex McCracken.
She was a native of Versailles, OH but moved with her family to West Milton as a teenager and graduated from Milton-Union High School as valedictorian. She attended Miami University, where she was an Education major and a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She graduated in 1951 and began her teaching career at Randolph High School in Englewood, teaching high school English. She later taught business and English at Milton-Union High School while starting her family. She was also an active member of Hoffman United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years.
As a life-long learner, Marj returned to graduate school to earn a master's degree in Library Science at Wright State University after the family moved to Oakwood. Upon graduation, she became a librarian in the Centerville school system and retired after 16 years of service.
Following retirement Marj continued being actively engaged in her many and varied interests. She was an intellectual and continued being an avid reader. She tutored for the Miami Valley Literacy Council. She was passionate about social causes and loved a good political debate. She was a supporter of the Dayton Philharmonic and other performing and fine arts. Marj was a Kettering Civic Band groupie and played the piano herself. She was very creative and spent a lot of time knitting, needlepointing, and creating personal poems to celebrate the milestones of friends and family. Marj was a fan of the Cincinnati Reds and Ohio State football. She loved traveling both domestically and abroad.
The family would like to express special thanks for and appreciation of the loving care she received from Teresa, Vicki, and Marilyn in her last years. We would also like to acknowledge "adopted daughters" Kate, Ming, and Sara.
A celebration of Marj's life will be held at 2 PM, Sunday, May 3rd at Routsong Funeral Home 2100 E Stroop Rd. Kettering. Interment will be private.
