Martha "Alice" Harshman

HARSHMAN, Martha Alice of Centerville, OH, age 91, passed away on September 23, 2019. Alice was born July 22, 1928 in Randolph County, IN, to Sylvester Charles and Martha Jane (Albertson) Lewis.

She received her Bachelor degree in Elementary Education from Marion College (now Indiana Wesleyan University) and her Master’s in Elementary Education from Indiana University. Alice volunteered her time as a room mother and was an active member of the PTA in Findlay, OH, where she and her husband Richard raised their family and were faithful members of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church.

God and family were Alice’s main focal point. Alice and Richard retired to Bradenton, FL, from 1990 until shortly after Richard’s death and were members of Emmanuel United Methodist Church there. She loved being around children and volunteered with St. Andrew’s and Emmanuel’s children’s programs.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Harshman, parents, 4 brothers and 4 sisters. Alice is survived by her children, Scott (Janice) Harshman, Robert Harshman, Martha (Kevin) Jackson, and Ben (Elaine Wyder-Harshman) Harshman; 4 grandchildren Betsy (David) Darnell, Charles (Katie) Harshman, Sam Harshman, and Kayleigh Jackson; 3 great grandchildren Madelyn Darnell, Brody Darnell and Theodore Harshman; one brother Leo Lewis; one sister Rachel Brouse, numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at San Damiano at St. Leonard’s, as well as the cardiac unit at Miami Valley South Hospital and Hospice of Dayton for the wonderful care they gave to Alice.

Funeral service will be held 11am on Friday, September 27, at Christ United Methodist Church South Campus, 10227 State Route 48, Centerville, OH 45458. Another Funeral Service will be held 3pm at Spartanburg United Methodist Church, 6798 S Arba Pike, Lynn, IN 47355. Burial at Spartanburg cemetery in Spartanburg, IN.
