Mary Catherine "Cathy" Opfer

OPFER, Mary Catherine Cathy (Sanders), age 70, of Washington Township, Ohio passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2018. She was born in Dayton, Ohio on December 21, 1947 to the late Carl B. and Helen Patricia (Wilson) Sanders. Cathy was the beloved wife of her husband Warren Arthur Opfer for over 45 years. She is also survived by her two children, Laura and David; her three grandchildren, Max, Arthur, and Annika; as well as her sister, Anne and six brothers Carl, Donald, Christopher, Jeffrey, William and Paul; her mothers sister, Phyllis Battigaglia, and many other loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Cathy was a graduate and proud alumna of Archbishop Alter High School, class of 1966, and also studied at Sinclair Community College. She had been an active member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Dayton for many years. Cathy was a valued and respected administrative assistant and computer specialist at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base for 24 years before retiring from the government and becoming co-owner and vice-president of Life Science Services International from 1995 through 2017. Cathy loved being a mom and grandmother and enjoyed spending as much time as possible with her young grandchildren. She was an avid reader, loved the opera and classical music, as well as being a passionate fan of The Beatles. She enjoyed traveling with her husband Warren. Hawaii was one of her favorite places in the world after visiting numerous times with Warren and again later with the whole family. We imagine her enjoying those gorgeous blue skies and ocean views now… The family will receive relatives and friends on June 15th from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Routsong Funeral Homes Centerville Chapel, 81 North Main St., Centerville, OH. 45459. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday June 16th at 10:30 a.m. at Incarnation Catholic Church, 7415 Far Hills Avenue, Centerville, OH 45459 (a few blocks away from Routsong). Cathy was cremated and will be interred in a private ceremony at a later time. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in Cathys name to the Wounded Warrior Project or another worthy charity of your choice.
