Mary Isabel Brightman

December 22, 1926 — November 7, 2012

BRIGHTMAN, Mary I. (nee Miller), 85, of Kettering, passed away peacefully on Wed., Nov. 7, 2012 at Walnut Creek Nursing Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Florence Miller, and then by her beloved husband Ken just two years ago. She is survived by her brother Claude A. Miller of Kettering, and by her children Ken Jr. (Karla) of Kettering and Gail (Sam) Longo of Bellbrook. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren: Matt (Christina) Smith of Vandalia, Shelley (Jason) Zimmerman of Columbus, Kenny III (Veronica) Brightman of Kettering, and Kyle (Diana) Brightman of St. Louis. Additionally, she leaves 4 great-grandchildren: Kain, Josh, Jocelin, and Cameron. Mary graduated from Stivers High School and worked as a model and for Ohio Bell. She married the love of her life, Ken, in 1949, quit work, and set out to be the "model" housewife and mother. Ken Jr. was born in 1951 and Gail in 1953. Mary and Ken enjoyed life to the fullest. Music, dancing, and events with Antioch Bagpipers and the Courtiers a capella group kept them busy. Mary's Miami Indian heritage ran deep. She was most in her element when she was outdoors--- fishing, playing golf, and observing the wildlife. Summers were spent in northern Michigan--- on the lake or on the golf course. Winters were spent snowmobiling there, until they decided to become permanent residents and play golf in Vero Beach, Florida. The family wishes to express the deepest appreciation to the staff of Walnut Creek Suites and Nursing Center, Dr. Anton Vasilu, Coca Anghelache, and Hospice of Dayton for providing the highest level of care to Mary. Funeral services will be held at David's Cemetery Community Mausoleum on Mon., Nov. 12, 2012 at 10 am with Rev. Dr. Brooks Heck officiating. Visitation and lunch will follow in the Gathering Room at the mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hospice of Dayton or Mary's favorite charity, the American Cancer Society.
